it was a very good year

*top of the p(r)ops to kaewonder (cratery, toronto)!!!

ok, gonna spit some sh!t...

had BIG fun doing a best of 2010 list for light in the attic last year. looking back over 2011, i don't have the same list-crazy zeal. there were rewarding music projects (our lives are shaped by what we love: motown's mowest story 1971-73, beautiful rivers and mountains: the psychedelic rock sound of shin joong hyun 1958-74, kim jung mi-now), lots of DJ'ing (the waldorf hotel, blackberry festival, ANZA club, interurban gallery), trips (sunshine coast, interior B.C., calgary, winnipeg, toronto), but overall, i guess i'm simply stoked to be rolling into 2012 w/ good health, tight friends, and ever expanding family... looking forward to more love (wink, wink maj!), learning, hard work (super hype to see some upcoming LITA reissues come to fruition), and much fun!@#$%!!!

resolutions??? listen to more "classic" rock albums that i've yet to fully immerse myself in. records by black sabbath, pink floyd, soft machine, king crimson, etc...

the rest, i suppose, shall come from deep within... i know what must be done.

will report revelations, some progress, and of course, any finished work that's suitable for print...

the beat

L-R (everett morton, david steele, andy cox, ranking roger, saxa, dave wakeling)

*pound-for-pound, the (english) beat could very well be my favourite musical combo. hailing from birmingham, england, in the late 1970s, they combined age, race, and musical genres to create a unique, fluid, and moving sound, which evolved over the course of 3 LPs and a series of 7" and 12" singles. post-beat, vocalists wakeling and roger formed general public while steele and cox soldiered on w/ singer roland gift to develop a fresh take on classic soul and R&B w/ fine young cannibals. highly recommended.

fantastic planet

*just got back from a week in toronto, ontario, my sometime home and source of great inspiration. it was amazing to see so many familiar faces, all vibing out and doing great things. the cratery cats, for one, two, and three, are definitely brewing up some tasty concoctions (and i'm not even talking 'bout the JD tennessee arcee). here's a pic from the mighty kaewonder as we set up to record at cratery HQ. watch this space for a link to an upcoming vinyl freak-out session w/ yours truly. thanks for the epic good times fellows!@#$%!!!

the winds restaurant

November 21/04

The Winds Restaurant

Take the alley entrance
Nothing has changed
You are seated and disappear
Into the menu
Snacks are put on the table
Piece by piece the meal comes together
And is consumed… Steady and easy
Crisp fried noodles, jasmine tea, and sliced beef with seasonal vegetable soup
Are washed down with the falling Sunday sun
A campus is near
It's a still meal, filled with comforting home-style peace
There’s more tea
A fortune cookie offers a ripped fortune
“Prosperity is coming”
Around me, employees eat their late afternoon meal in advance of another evening’s work
The light is now dim, the Chinese horoscope placemats are for the taking

*The Winds Restaurant can be found at 59 Four Winds Drive, North York, Ontario. Phone: 416-736-4646

the mighty pope

what can i say about the mighty pope that hasn't already been said? he lives his life to the fullest, has made some great music along the way (w/ the sheiks, hitch-hikers, ram, and as a solo artist), and continues to spread love everywhere he goes... hope to see and hear much more from this jamaican-canadian soul/R&B/disco legend in the not too distant future!@#$%!!! BIG ups to the musical pope!!!
